This set could be called “A Tale for Two Ratlings” for the Nezumi Clan. On one hand, there are what I think to be some fantastic Personality card designs. They are fast, cheap, simply designed, and will fit into several existing decktypes. We see more Scouts, four boxables, and some Dynasty-side synergy going on. On the other hand, there is not as much Nezumi-targeted support in Rise of the Shogun. That does not go to say that Ratling players won’t be able to exploit a host of support cards presented in ROTS, only that Ratling’s name isn’t imprinted on them.

For example, One More Sacrifice is an Action that few clans can support the cost to play. Certainly Shadowlands can use it (Daigotsu Masami), and possibly Lion if it really needs to chuck someone into its discard pile (although I highly doubt it), but only Ratling is best suited to absorb the cost with little-to-no affect on its game. Additionally, Breeding Season can be used on conjunction with OMS during the mid-to-late game, once the card fails to serve to be useful for bringing out a Shinbone Pack during the first few turns.

Ratling Truthseeker’s excellence is so readily apparent that I am not going to even say any more about it. 3F for 3G? Tactician? Broken Shinbone Tribe? Great flavor text? Excellent. A boon for any clan.

Oh-krch’s ability works in conjunction with… well… any of your Ratlings that are dead… which means it also works with One More Sacrifice. The 2G cost reduction is icing on the cake. All one needs to do is add Chitik and a merry-go-round can begin that will prevent opponents from whacking your Personalities without serious reprecussions. Of course, that’s one massive combo that might never work… but the synergy is there.

And speaking of syngery, let’s not forget to quickly look at Inspired Strategy. Where in-Battle card search was the province of Lion, now just about any clan can do it. I rolled the card in with Ratling’s previews because Chitik still remains a force to be reckoned with, and any type of unrestricted card search helps Chitik work better and faster.

In general, these are some very fast cards.
